Widescreen TVs and HDTVs have screens 16 inches wide for every 9 inches high, thus the term 16.9 is used when describing a widescreen TV.
4.3
Normal TVs have screens 4 inches wide for every 3 inches high, when reffering to a normal TVs aspect ratio the term 4.3 is used.
5.1 surround sound
Modern digital surround sound has 5 seperate channels of sound with a 6th omni-directional subwoofer channel for deep bass as apposed to 2 channels on a normal stereo. Dolby Digital and DTS are the only two sound formats that truely make use of every seperate channel in a 5.1 system. The older Dolby pro-logic format only has a single rear channel and no subwoofer channel so it doesn't even come close to the seperation of a true 5.1 format like Dolby Digital and DTS.
Aspect ratio
The shape of a given TV screen is described by it's height and width. The ratio of height to width is called the aspect ratio.
Firewire port
A firewire port also known as an iLINK port is a high-speed high-bandwidth digital connection used to transfer data back and forth between two digital devices. Digital video cameras commonly use these ports for computer editing of home movies.
